Technology has always been my passion. From the first time I built a computer in my parents’ basement to leading tech initiatives at some of the world’s largest companies, I’ve spent my career at the intersection of technology and business. But throughout my journey, I noticed a common issue: a disconnect between tech professionals and business decision-makers.
That’s why I created BensBookMarks.com. a place where tech and business collide, where professionals can learn, grow, and stay ahead of the curve.
The Road to BensBookMarks.com
A Passion for Tech and Business
Like many in tech, my journey started with curiosity. I wanted to understand how things worked—how software ran, how networks connected, and how data flowed. But what really fascinated me was how technology drives business success.
Over the years, I’ve worked in various roles, from IT support and cybersecurity to data analytics and cloud infrastructure. I’ve worked for startups, mid-sized businesses, and Fortune 500 companies, experiencing firsthand how businesses struggle to align their tech with their goals.
From Troubleshooting to Strategy: My Career Evolution
I started my career in technical support, solving everyday IT issues and learning the nuts and bolts of enterprise infrastructure. Then, I moved into network administration and cybersecurity, securing systems and making sure companies stayed compliant.
Eventually, I transitioned into data analytics and business intelligence, where I learned the power of data-driven decision-making. Finally, I found myself in tech strategy and digital transformation, helping businesses implement AI, automation, and cloud computing.
Each step of the way, I realized that technology is only as powerful as the strategy behind it. The best tech teams aren’t just good at coding or infrastructure, they understand business priorities, user needs, and market trends.
Why I Created This Blog
After years of working in corporate tech, I saw the same struggles again and again:
✅ IT teams struggling to communicate with executives
✅ Companies investing in tech they don’t actually need
✅ Skilled professionals held back because they don’t understand business strategy
I wanted to create a resource that bridges this gap—a place where tech professionals can learn about business strategy, and where business leaders can better understand technology’s role in success.
My Background in Tech & Business
The Companies I’ve Worked For (Without Naming Names 😉)
I’ve worked at some of the biggest names in enterprise technology, cloud computing, and cybersecurity. While I can’t name them all, let’s just say if you’ve used a major cloud provider or a global e-commerce platform, you’ve interacted with some of the systems I helped manage.
Roles I’ve Held: From IT Support to Tech Leadership
My journey has taken me through many roles, including:
- Help Desk & IT Support: Fixing systems, troubleshooting issues, and keeping businesses running
- Network Security & Cloud Infrastructure: Protecting data, building scalable systems, and managing risk
- Business Intelligence & Data Analytics: Helping companies make smarter, data-driven decisions
- Technology Strategy & Digital Transformation: Implementing AI, automation, and cloud solutions to improve efficiency
What I Learned from Corporate Tech
One of the biggest lessons I learned is that technology doesn’t solve problems—people do. The best tech teams are the ones that work alongside business leaders, not in isolation.
The Knowledge Gap: Why Tech Professionals Need Business Skills
The Disconnect Between IT and Business Decision-Making
In many companies, IT is seen as a cost center rather than a strategic asset. This leads to a lack of investment, poor communication, and missed opportunities.
How Understanding Business Strategy Made Me a Better Technologist
Once I started learning about finance, operations, and marketing, I became a much better technologist. I could speak the language of business, align IT projects with company goals, and prove the value of technology investments.
Why Companies Need People Who Can Speak Both “Languages”
Tech professionals who understand business strategy have a huge advantage. They:
- Get promoted faster because they understand company goals
- Can communicate better with executives and secure buy-in for projects
- Become more valuable to their companies, leading to higher salaries and better job security
